Abstract

This essay reviews document formatting software, praising some aspects of Microsoft's Word but deploring the absence of accessible markup, suggests Word should be described as WYSINWYW rather thn WYSIWYG, considers computer based chracter sets as typographically deficient, and suggests that markup should concentrate on frmatting and typography rather than on content.
