This paper examines several major theoretical approaches to understanding shame as an emotion and how its effects are triggered in individuals Two cognitive models of shame (Lewis, 1992; Nathanson, 1992) are integrated to provide a base for understanding the shame process with application to the workplace. Based upon conjecture and personal observation, a number of potential shame triggers in the workplace are proposed, and their impact on management is explored. Finally topics for research on shame in the workplace are suggested. " name="eprints.abstract" />

This paper examines several major theoretical approaches to understanding shame as an emotion and how its effects are triggered in individuals Two cognitive models of shame (Lewis, 1992; Nathanson, 1992) are integrated to provide a base for understanding the shame process with application to the workplace. Based upon conjecture and personal observation, a number of potential shame triggers in the workplace are proposed, and their impact on management is explored. Finally topics for research on shame in the workplace are suggested. </p></div><table style="margin-bottom: 1em" border="0" cellpadding="3" class="not_ep_block"><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Item Type:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">Book Chapter</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Keywords:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">Shame, emotion, workplace, work, organisational psychology</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Subjects:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row"><a href="http://eprints.utas.edu.au/view/subjects/380108.html">380000 Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences &gt; 380100 Psychology &gt; 380108 Industrial and Organisational Psychology</a><br /><a href="http://eprints.utas.edu.au/view/subjects/350201.html">350000 Commerce, Management, Tourism and Services &gt; 350200 Business and Management &gt; 350201 Human Resources Management</a><br /><a href="http://eprints.utas.edu.au/view/subjects/389999.html">380000 Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences &gt; 389900 Other Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences &gt; 389999 Other Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences</a><br /><a href="http://eprints.utas.edu.au/view/subjects/220000.html">220000 Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts - General</a><br /><a href="http://eprints.utas.edu.au/view/subjects/380199.html">380000 Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences &gt; 380100 Psychology &gt; 380199 Psychology not elsewhere classified</a></td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Collections:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">UNSPECIFIED</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">ID Code:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">1472</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Deposited By:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row"><span class="ep_name_citation"><span class="person_name">Dr Chris Poulson</span></span></td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Deposited On:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">13 Aug 2007</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">Last Modified:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row">07 Feb 2008 11:29</td></tr><tr><th valign="top" class="ep_row">ePrint Statistics:</th><td valign="top" class="ep_row"><a target="ePrintStats" href="/es/index.php?action=show_detail_eprint;id=1472;">View statistics for this ePrint</a></td></tr></table><p align="right">Repository Staff Only: <a href="http://eprints.utas.edu.au/cgi/users/home?screen=EPrint::View&amp;eprintid=1472">item control page</a></p>
